McBean leads way with pair of goals in 3-0 win for Los Dos

CARSON, Calif. – The LA Galaxy II took their second win in as many games to start the USL season as they took a 3-0 victory against Saint Louis FC on Wednesday night at StubHub Center. Jack McBean scored twice for Los Dos, as a late surge at the end of the first half paved the way to victory.
After an even start to the game, Saint Louis had the first serious effort on goal as Chad Bond’s free kick floated into the area, and was kept alive as it dropped for a shot by Eric Gehrig, but the effort deflected wide of the right post for a corner kick.
Los Dos had their fair share of possession too, but it didn’t result in a good chance until the 22nd minute when a cross from the right by Jaime Villarreal found Bradford Jamieson IV at the near post, but his header went over the crossbar.
The Galaxy II continued to apply some pressure, but Saint Louis’ defense was well organized to deal with it. Both McBean and Jamieson had shots blocked as they looked to put LA ahead as STL FC held firm.
McBean gave the Galaxy II the lead two minutes before the break, however, as a turnover by Saint Louis was picked up by Villarreal, and his slide-rule pass caught the defense square. McBean got to the pass first, rounded Mark Pais, and slid his finish into the open net.
Then, moments into stoppage time, Los Dos made it two as Bryam Rebellon’s shot from 30 yards out took a wicked deflection off a defender, wrong-footing Pais, as it clipped the left post and found the net.
The Galaxy II threatened again early in the second half, as Villarreal’s turning shot was deflected over the crossbar by a Saint Louis defender. The pressure paid off when McBean made it three in the 58th minute from a free kick, as his low shot from 22 yards found the right corner of the net.
Saint Louis had a big chance to pull a goal back when Charles Renken read a pass back to LA goalkeeper Clement Diop, but he wasn’t able to get a clean touch on the ball and the chance went astray, and the Galaxy II saw out the remainder of the contest to earn back-to-back shutouts and maximum points from their first two games.
