DPMM END HOME'S FOUR-MONTH UNBEATEN RUN

Written By: Kenneth Ho
Brunei DPMM put a halt to Home United's unbeaten streak after a Singapore Cup semi-final first leg 3-2 win at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Friday evening.
The Protectors had not lost a game since 22 June, where they went down 2-0 to Albirex Niigata (S) in the StarHub League Cup. Since then, they went on a ten-game unbeaten run.
Against DPMM, their unbeaten record in all competitions looked intact with both sides tied at 2-2.
That was until Rafael Ramazotti popped up with a late winner in the 86th minute, to give DPMM a one-goal advantage heading into the second leg.
However, Home will have every right to feel aggrieved about the result after dominating the game and creating a truckload of chances.

DPMM took an early lead when Paulo Sergio stole in to slot the ball past Home goalkeeper Shahril Jantan in the eighth minute.
But they were soon placed under immense pressure by the Protectors, and credit had to go to goalkeeper Wardun Yussof for keeping DPMM in the lead.
Ambroise Begue could have levelled matters in the 18th minute but he lashed wide in front of goal while Ken Ilso was denied by Wardun minutes later.
The goalkeeper continued his fine performance after the break by denying Azhar Sairudin and Ilso again.
Wardun's goal was finally breached in the 56th minute, as Azhar beat him with a low shot from the edge of the box into the bottom corner.

Home then took the lead two minutes later, as Ambroise Begue connected with Ken Ilso's cut-back to rifle the ball home.
The Protectors' joy barely lasted five minutes though, with a blunder by Shahril giving DPMM their equaliser.
The goalkeeper appeared to have had Azwan Ali's free-kick covered, but the ball somehow squirmed under him.
Both sides appeared to be heading for a draw, until Ramazotti managed to head in Maududi Hilmi's cross to break the Protectors' hearts.

TAKI GIVES ALBIREX NARROW LEAD

A second-half Rion Taki strike was enough to help Albirex Niigata (S) take a slim 1-0 advantage on aggregate against Global FC in the RHB Singapore Cup semi-finals.
Taki struck a cool finish in the 52nd minute following a mistake at the back from the Philippines side to settle the contest on Friday evening at the Clementi Stadium.
Both sides entered the game without ample preparation due to the current haze situation, which had caused the tie to be rescheduled three times.
It showed early on, as they struggled to get into any rhythm.
Global did manage to craft out a chance in the seventh minute, but captain Misagh Bahadoran’s effort was beaten away by Albirex custodian Yosuke Nozawa.

Twelve minutes later, Shun Inaba had a decent effort on goal from the edge of the box but it trickled just wide before Taki headed horribly wide after latching onto Fumiya Kogure’s cross.
Albirex continued to pile on the pressure, only to be let down by more poor finishing.
Global went on the counter in the 37th minute and could have taken the lead, but Mark Hartmann curled his effort over instead.
Both Taki and Kogure could have given the White Swans a goal just before the break as well, but Taki screwed his shot wide before Kogure curled a free-kick agonisingly wide three minutes later.
Seven minutes after the restart, Taki found the back of the net as the Global defence went to sleep.

A loose pass allowed Shotaro Ihata to pick up the ball deep inside their half and the striker slid in Taki, who made no mistakes with his finish.
They could have doubled their lead 15 minutes later, but Kogure sent his shot just over the bar.
Global almost equalised with just 11 minutes left on the clock on the counter once again, but unluckily for the Philippines side, Hartmann could not connect cleanly with Bahadoran’s dangerous cross.
There was nothing they could conjured up in the dying minutes despite camping inside Albirex’s half and this means they will head into the second leg trailing by a goal.
Global FC XI: Patrick Deyto (GK), Matthew Hartmann, Misagh Bahadoran (C), Amani Aguinaldo, Mario Clarino (Paulo Selenga 46’), Mark Hartmann, Richard Jr. Talaroc, Masaki Yanagawa, Paolo Bugas (Dennis Villanueva 67’), Jerry Barbaso, Yu Hoshide
Albirex Niigata (S) XI: Yosuke Nozawa (GK), Mikiya Yamada, Kento Fujihara, Takahiro Saito, Itsuki Yamada, Hikaru Mizuno (C), Fumiya Kogure (Ryuki Matsuya 90’) , Rion Taki, Shotaro Ihata (Hikaru Yanagawa 87’), Shun Inaba, Rui Kumada (Yusuke Mukai 66’)

MAGICAL CASTANHEIRA PROPELS EAGLES TO WIN

Written By: Kenneth Ho
Bruno Castanheira was at his imperious best on Sunday evening as he scored a hat-trick to help Geylang International to a 3-2 win over Courts Young Lions.
The win was Geylang's first in the league since May, where they went on a nine-game winless streak after beating Home United 1-0.
Geylang were helped by the dismissal of Afiq Noor, after he received his second yellow card in the 73rd minute.
His sending off gave Geylang the advantage when the scores were tied at 2-2, and a goal by Castanheira in the 76th minute proved the difference between both teams in a thrilling game.
The first real chance of the game came in the 17th minute, when Rudy Khairullah fumbled Mustaqim Manzur's free-kick into Jozef Kaplan's path.
Luckily for the goalkeeper, his defender Sheikh Abdul Hadi blocked the Geylang captain's shot.
But the scoring was opened in the 25th minute, with Jordan Webb doing so with a sublime solo effort.
Embarking on a dazzling run down the left, Webb proceeded to cut in from the byline before unleashing an effort from an acute angle past Yazid Yasin.
Geylang had the ball in the back of the net just three minutes later after Kaplan stabbed in the ball but he was flagged offside.
However, the equaliser soon arrived in a spectacular manner for the Eagles in the 37th minute.
Mustaqim found Castanheira in the box with his corner and the Japanese struck a brilliant first-time effort into the top corner to level matters.
Both sides enjoyed a chance each to go in front just before the break, but Yazid showed great reflexes to parry a Shahfiq Ghani point-blank shot while Hafiz Nor blasted over from eight yards out at the other end.
The Eagles finally went ahead just before the hour mark, with Castanheira hitting another exquisite first-time shot past Rudy following a long through ball by Mustaqim.
The lead barely lasted four minutes though, as Shameer Aziq scored his fourth goal in as many games in the 63rd minute with a header from close range after a knock down by Webb.
However, all the Young Lions' hard work were undone in the 73rd minute when Afiq received his marching orders.
Taking advantage of their numerical superiority, Geylang pressed the Young Lions more and they were rewarded for it in the 76th minute.
Fadli Kamis was guilty of losing the ball to Kaplan and the Geylang captain ran into space before releasing Castanheira, who calmly put the ball past Rudy for his hat-trick.
The Japanese forward could have scored his fourth goal in the 80th minute when Rudy tipped away Kaplan's shot to him but Castanheira hit wide instead.
Kaplan also miss another two gilt-edged chances in the dying minutes of the game, but they proved inconsequential as Geylang earned their first S.League win in nine outings.
Court Young Lions: Rudy Khairullah (GK), Fadli Kamis, Amirul Adli (Suria Prakash 64'), M.Anumanthan, Safirul Sulaiman, Shahfiq Ghani, Jordan Webb, Sheikh Abdul Hadi (C), Sherif El-Masri (Ammirul Emmran 75'), Afiq Noor, Shameer Aziq (Nur Na'iim Ishak 64')
