The Special One saw his struggling side crash to their sixth defeat of the season against Liverpool on Saturday to leave the Portuguese manager on the brink
Jose Mourinho is on the brink of being sacked by Chelsea.
The Stamford Bridge boss and his backroom team went into Saturday’s clash withLiverpool knowing they had to win to ensure their survival.
The Blues were beaten and the issue is now when owner Roman Abramovich will make the change.
Sources in Portugal believe Mourinho may not be in charge for Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Dynamo Kiev.
Mourinho only signed a new four year contract in August after guiding the Blues to the Premier League title.
He is believed to be paid around £9.5 million a-year. But there is a clause that stipulates he will receive one year’s salary if the contract is terminated.
This was Chelsea’s sixth defeat in 11 League games. They remain in fifteenth place and yet again Mourinho blamed his side’s failings on a refereeing conspiracy theory.
He said: “We are winning 1-0 and there is two minutes of injury time. We conceded a goal a goal after two minutes and 35 seconds of injury time and what happened in the second half was a consequence of that crucial moment.”
But the stark reality is that Jurgen Klopp’s men deserved their win.
Last night Chelsea officials insisted Mourinho had not been sacked and denied claims that the manager had been summoned to a meeting with Abramovich.
But the belief is that Mourinho knew the stakes he was playing for in the Liverpool game - without being hauled into a meeting.
Asked directly whether yesterday’s defeat could be his last match as Chelsea boss, he replied: “No, I don’t.”
He added: “I have no doubts, no doubts. The team is together.
“But we see, match after match, that, as professionals, they are not getting the respect they deserve.”
Kop boss Klopp said he has some sympathy for Mourinho.
He said: “Of course, I feel for him. It’s normal. I had a similar situation in Dortmund last year.
“The good thing was no one in the club was in doubt about my position. Nobody.”
While Liverpool may have snapped up one of the hottest properties in management by bringing in Klopp, there are plenty of contenders who could step into the Chelsea hotseat.
