TEAM NEWS
Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote returns to the squad after missing the last three games with a groin injury.
Otherwise, Steve McClaren will have the same players available who earned a victory at Tottenham last Sunday.
Aston Villa manager Remi Garde expects to be without captain Micah Richards with the knee injury which has seen the defender miss the last two matches.
Villa's only other injury doubt is midfielder Gary Gardner, who is also suffering with a knee problem.
MOTD COMMENTATOR'S NOTES
Steve Bower: "Aston Villa will have looked at Newcastle in the last fortnight and seen the difference a victory can make.
"The trouble for Villa is they haven't managed one since the opening day of the season. Remi Garde inherited a squad bereft of any confidence and he hasn't been able to inject with his run of two points from 15. They need some points on the board to provide a chink of light at the end of their dark tunnel.
"Newcastle's question is can they take another step forward instead of two back? They've beaten Liverpool and Tottenham against the odds, can they follow it against Villa when they are expected to?"
WHAT THE MANAGERS SAY
Newcastle head coach Steve McClaren: "How (Villa) are only on six points, I don't know because they have very good players.
"Let's not get expectations high. We have to do exactly what we have been doing to get results.
"The key is us and the crowd. The key word tomorrow for everybody is patience.
"Aston Villa is an opportunity and a challenge to kick on and go on. Can we take it? Are we ready to do it?"
Aston Villa manager Remi Garde: "We concede too many goals but we are not conceding by four or five goals.
"I don't want to say stats are wrong but they are there to be destroyed.
"After these four games we will know more about the team. The next four games will be crucial. Let's see what happens."
LAWRO'S PREDICTION
It looks like Aston Villa could be cut adrift completely shortly - things are that bad for them.
Newcastle have found some form after their own poor start and could make it three wins in a row on Saturday.
That is what I think will happen, although you never know with the Magpies because sometimes they just don't turn up.
