Angola seal CHAN qualification
Angola booked their place at the 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN) despite a 2-1 defeat to South Africa at the 11 de Novembre Stadium in the Angolan capital on Saturday.
A 2-0 win at Rand Stadium for 'Palancas Negras' last week proved pivotal with Bafana Bafana unable to seal their ticket to Rwanda.
Both side's pressed forward in search of an early goal with corner-kicks dominating the opening exchanges.
South Africa and in particular Percy Tau was unlucky to see his header attempt cleared off the line, but Shakes Mashaba's men found the opener in the 28th minute.
Lyle Lakay's ball into the area caused hesitation in the hosts box with the ball ending up in the back of the net via an Angolan defender.
South Africa though suffered a major setback on the cusp of half-time with Angola finding the equaliser through Gerson, the forward finishing off a quick counter-attack.
The visitors came out firing after the break and despite a late goal from Lakay, Angola held on for a 3-2 aggregate win in Luanda.
TEAMS
Angola starting XI: Mario; Isaac, Silva, Fabricio, Gomito II, Gerson, Fredy, Papel, Miguel, Dário, Mateus
South Africa staring XI: Sandilands, S.Zwane, Letlabika, September, Mokgothu, Lakay, Mbunjane, Morton, Eksteen, Ndulula, Tau
