Juventus 0-0 Borussia Monchengladbach: Italian champions lose 100 per cent win record in this season's Champions League
- Juventus went into the match top of Group D after winning first two games
- Borussia Monchengladbach were bottom after two opening defeats
- Paul Pogba enjoyed a number of chances but could not break deadlock
- The German side held on for a vital point, but stay bottom of the group
Juventus were held to a frustrating 0-0 home draw with Borussia Moenchengladbach in the Champions League on Wednesday, as the Italians dominated possession and chances but failed to break down the visitors' steely defence.
The hosts hogged the ball but were unable to find a breakthrough with Paul Pogba and Alvaro Morata both going close, while Mario Mandzukic had a penalty appeal rejected by the referee on 66 minutes.
While Juventus failed to make a mark on the scoresheet, keeper Gianluigi Buffon entered the club's record books as he broke Alessandro Del Piero's record for minutes played for the 'Old Lady' of Italian football.

Del Piero previously held the record having played 48,867 minutes for the club, but it was surpassed by Buffon in the 73rd minute of an exasperating evening for Juventus.
The draw left Juve in top spot in Group D, having picked up seven points from their opening three matches.
Manchester City, who beat Sevilla 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium, are second on six points, while the Spaniards are third on three and Gladbach remain bottom of the group with one.
Juventus dominated possession in a first half littered with chances and almost took the lead on 23 minutes when a Juan Cuadrado effort narrowly missed Yann Sommer's goal.
Pogba became increasingly influential as the half wore on and both he and Morata saw long-range strikes fly just wide.

Morata was involved in the key moment of the first half on 41 minutes when he was brought down by Alvaro Dominguez, who appeared to be the last man.
Despite the furious protests of the Juventus players, the Spanish defender escaped with only a yellow card.
Pogba fashioned an excellent chance for Morata on 56 minutes with a superb lobbed pass, although the striker, who was hoping to break another of Del Piero's records by scoring in his sixth-consecutive Champions League match, took a touch too many and allowed Andreas Christensen to recover.
Sommer had to be at full stretch to beat away a Pogba free kick on 58 minutes, and the home fans' frustrations increased shortly afterwards when the referee rejected Mandzukic's penalty appeals after the striker fell in the box under pressure from Dominguez.

Juventus keeps group lead after drawing 0-0 with 'Gladbach
TURIN, Italy (AP) — Last season's finalist Juventus remained atop its Champions League group following a dull 0-0 draw with Borussia Moenchengladbach on Wednesday.
Apart from a dangerous free kick from Paul Pogba early in the second half that 'Gladbach goalkeeper Yan Sommer dove to push away, there were few chances for either side.
Juventus has seven points, one more than Manchester City , which rallied to beat Sevilla 2-1. Sevilla is next with three points, while Gladbach earned its first point in Group D.
Juventus pushed for a late goal as coach Massimiliano Allegri substituted all three forwards but still had trouble creating scoring opportunities.
Still, Juventus extended its home unbeaten streak in Europe to 15 matches, stretching back to a 2-0 loss to Bayern Munich in the 2013 quarterfinals.

Gianluigi Buffon – 6 – Bored
Played the role of spectator for much of the evening and wasn’t tested at all as the visitors struggled to get their forward players involved in the game. One positive note for the skipper was his setting of the record for Champions League minutes played for the Bianconeri.

Giorgio Chiellini – 6.5 – Cruise
A comfortable night for the strong defender who was rarely tested but remained alert when any hint of danger did come his way. Perhaps the quieter of his two fellow defenders but played his part in keeping the hosts secure at the back.

Leonardo Bonucci – 6.5 – Considered
Not tested a great deal defensively but won his battles when needed. The Italian international’s best work was perhaps while in possession of the ball and he used it well at times coming out of defence.

Andrea Barzagli – 7 – Exemplary
A strong performance from the veteran defender who made several interceptions and tackles while also possessing the energy to launch several charges up the right flank to support the attacking play.

Alex Sandro – 6 – Adequate
Didn’t do much wrong in terms of defending and made several surges forward to provide options on the left flank but seemed to lack the aggression and quality to add anything to the Juventus attacks.

Paul Pogba – 6.5 – Effort
Looked the most likely Juventus player to break the deadlock with several efforts on goal which forced saves from Sommer in the opposition goal. Also supplied half-chances for Mandzukic which were not taken advantage of.

Claudio Marchisio – 6.5 – Diligent
Worked as hard as ever in the Bianconeri engine room and exhibited a good range of passing when in possession. Possibly the only Juventus midfielder who wasn’t lacking anything obvious from his performance given his responsibilities.

Sami Khedira – 5.5 – Sluggish
Gave away possession on a number of occasions and wasn’t the driving force that he is capable of being which perhaps contributed to Juve’s lack of urgency at times.

Juan Cuadrado – 5.5 – Dull
The Colombian lacked his usual energetic performance and beyond taking corners he struggled to provide any dangerous deliveries into the opposition penalty area before being replaced by Pereyra after 60 minutes.

Alvaro Morata – 5.5 – Disappointing
Lacked the composure in front of goal that his side so badly needed on what was a poor evening for the Spaniard. Found himself in several good positions but ultimately made the wrong decisions before eventually being replaced by Dybala.

Mario Mandzukic – 5 – Ineffective
Looked off-the-pace for the 70 minutes he was involved in the game before being replaced by Zaza. Was supplied by Pogba on a couple of occasions but reacted too slowly to cause any threat to the Monchengladbach goal.

Made a handful of saves when called upon, the most notable being from two powerful Pogba shots. Aside from these long-range efforts the Swiss goalkeeper wasn’t really tested.

Oscar Wendt – 6.5 – Solid
A good showing from the Swedish full-back who dealt well with the potentially tricky job of marking Cuadrado and also looked comfortable in possession, looking to break out of defence with the ball when possible.

Alvaro Dominguez – 6 – Alert
Had one hairy moment when he was perhaps lucky not to be dismissed for what looked like a last-man foul but apart from that the Spaniard covered his defensive line well, sweeping up loose balls on a number of occasions.

The 19-year-old didn’t look overawed at this level and showed impressive reading of the game along with some brave challenges. A good foil for Dominguez and one for the future.

The captain did most of his best work tackling in midfield and tracking back, and while he didn’t play any particularly incisive passes he did tend to keep possession well when needed.

A neat passing performance from the young midfielder without ever really imposing himself on the game. Busy and always willing to receive possession, the German looks a prospect.

Possibly the German side’s most talented attacking player on the night, the Guinean started brightly but saw less of the ball as the match wore on. Was always willing to track back and help his defence.

Despite his constant movement the Brazilian was unable to get on the ball as much as he would have liked due to his side’s lack of possession in the final third of the pitch. Substituted for Hazard after 74 minutes.
