Istanbul: AFC Champions League quarter-finalists Lekhwiya have been dealt a further injury blow with the news that midfielder Karim Boudiaf faces an enforced spell on the sidelines.
Boudiaf, who has featured in all eight of Lekhwiya’s AFC Champions League games this season, suffered a partial rupture of an ankle ligament ahead of Tuesday’s 3-1 defeat to Turkish side Bursaspor, with the Qatari club’s official website stating that he would now be absent for a minimum of two weeks.
Despite the 24-year-old Qatar international joining Chico Flores and Vladimir Weiss on the club treatment table, Lekhwiya coach Djamel Belmadi is confident that the influential trio will return sooner rather than later.
“One negative that we have faced in terms of preparation is the injuries to Chico Flores , Vladimir Weiss and finally Karim Boudiaf. I hope they will return to the team soon.”
Lekhwiya will travel to Saudi Arabia to play Al Hilal in the first leg of the AFC Champions League quarter-finals on August 25 before hosting the return fixture on September 15.
