ADELAIDE United will don three striking strips for the first time this season including a cobalt blue clash kit that represents a marked departure from traditional club colours.
United’s new home KAPPA kit will incorporate state colours red and yellow with blue detailing. The 2015-16 away kit will be black with classic red around the trimming of the collar and both sleeves.
The third strip will be worn on away matches where both the home and away strips’ colours coincide with United’s opposition. It’s the first time United’s outfield players will wear cobalt blue.
The collars differ from last season’s shirt embracing a retro style, while the club’s crest is embroidered seamlessly over the Reds’ hearts. The club’s establishment date will be stamped onto the back of the collar.
Adelaide skipper Eugene Galekovic believes the 2015-16 club kit will prove popular with fans.
“The design and detailing compared to last season’s kit has varied, but the breathability to these new ones is really good and the colours we’ve gone for definitely stand out,” Galekovic said. “Having the third kit is also great and it’s also a bit different to what the fans are used to us wearing, but I think it’s something they’ll all get behind and I’m sure they’ll love it.”
Adelaide United kits will be available from the Adelaide United Club Store later this month.

FFA Cup: Western Sydney Wanderers striker Brendon Santalab ready to fire

THREE times Brendon Santlab has felt his shoulder implode, and three times he has fought his way back to fitness. Now, having scored with his first touch of a football since February, the 32-year-old has lost time to make up for and FFA Cup progress to ensure for the Wanderers.
A first appearance of pre-season in last week’s friendly with Canberra FC brought Santalab a goal as immediate reward for the months of rehab since an operation on his shoulder in February.
It was his third such bout of surgery on the same shoulder, after dislocating it in 2008 and in last October’s Asian Champions League Final. But not surprisingly for a striker who then played in the second leg of the ACL final despite the excruciating pain he was in, Santalab now insists the injuries are a distant memory.
He is likely to play a leading role as Western Sydney face Palm Beach tonight in the last 16 of the FFA Cup, wary of a repeat of last year’s loss to state league side Adelaide City.
“It’s been a long road and last year I missed a lot of football,” Santalab said. “I feel great now and I’ve worked hard on my shoulder over the past few months.
“I don’t even think about the shoulder, my thoughts are solely on the game and trying to win. I’m over my injury and I’m excited for this game and the season ahead.
It’s one of those things where you just have to do all the right things and follow the medical staff’s plan. I’ve done that and I can’t ask any more from them.
“Having to have second surgery last season was incredibly unlucky, it was a separate injury to the first operation I had. Even the surgeon was quite shocked.
“Bad luck hit me last year and I want to bounce back from that. I feel good, and I want to put it all behind me. I always have had an important role since I joined the club. I’m a fighter, it doesn’t matter if we’re winning or losing. I’ll always give 100% at training and in games. That’s all the boss asks from his players.”
Coach Tony Popovic confirmed that Santalab would be involved against Palm Beach, though Spaniard Andreu and Golgol Mebrahtu will miss the game.
“It’s fantastic to have Santa back and we’re all delighted for him that when he came on, he scored with his first touch against Canberra,” Popovic said. “For him it was a great moment after working so hard to come back.
“It’s his energy around the training ground and on the park, it lifts everyone and it will be good to see him out on the park.”

A-League: Luke Brattan fronts teammates about departure but Roar determined to keep him

LUKE Brattan has fronted his Brisbane teammates about his expected departure from the club, but Roar officials remain adamant they will fight tooth and nail to keep the Socceroos midfielder.
Brattan, who on Friday gained a favourable verdict from an independent arbitrator in his bid to leave the Roar on a free transfer because of unpaid superannuation, attended Brisbane’s training session on Saturday.
While fellow Socceroos squad member Matt McKay trained ahead the pair’s departure on Sunday for Australia’s World Cup qualifier against Bangladesh on Thursday in Perth, Brattan’s main reason for being there was to get his boots from the dressing-room.
He also addressed the Roar squad, some of who remain shocked about the events of last week, telling them their was enough talent in the Brisbane ranks to win a fourth A-League title in six years.
It’s understood that the club’s intention to appeal against the arbitrator’s decision — and probably take the matter further if that appeal fails — was reiterated to Brattan, who has his heart set on joining a European club.
McKay and Brattan won’t be the only players missing from Brisbane’s line-up when the Roar take on a Gold Coast Premier League Select XI at Southport Football Club today.
Striker Jean Carlos Solorzano had been expected to return from a foot injury, but his comeback has been further delayed.
Veteran left fullback Shane Stefanutto, who injured his hamstring in the Roar’s recent 1-0 trial loss to Melbourne Victory, is also out, while goalkeeper Jamie Young (hip) joins fellow gloveman Michael Theo (wrist) on the sidelines.
Either Denver Crickmore or Tom Bilic — the Roar’s two youth squad keepers — will start.
Young midfielder Mitchell Hore, who was set to play from the opening whistle, has been ruled out after injuring his knee at training.
In better news for the Roar, Olyroos trio Jamie Maclaren, James Donachie and Brandon Borrello will play before leaving for Australian under-23 duty in Turkey and Macedonia.
Today’s match kicks off at 3pm at Ashmore Village Park.
Meanwhile, Socceroos attacking weapon and former Roar star Tommy Oar has joined English Championship club Ipswich Town after leaving Dutch outfit FC Utrecht at the end of last season.

Socceroo keeper reveals injury news

Socceroos goalkeeper Mat Ryan is likely to miss a month of football after undergoing surgery on the knee injury which has ruled him out of Thursday night’s FIFA 2018 World Cup Russia qualifier against Bangladesh.
Ryan was scratched from the Socceroo 23-man squad on Monday afternoon after picking up a knock in Valencia’s 1-1 draw with Deportivo La Caruna in La Liga on the weekend.
And the 23-year-old revealed on Twitter last night he needs to go under the knife to fix the problem.
"About to undergo arthroscope to fix meniscus," Ryan posted on his official Twitter account.
"With some luck be back fit in 4 weeks. Look forward to coming back stronger."

Ryan joins the likes of skipper Mile Jedinak, winger Robbie Kruse and striker Tomi Juric as withdrawals from the squad to play Bangladesh in Perth, followed by Tajikistan away next Tuesday.
Experienced Adelaide United gloveman Eugene Galekovic has been brought into the squad as cover for Ryan.
But Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou has just 48 hours and two training sessions to choose his new no.1, with Adam Federici and Alex Cisak only arriving in camp on Monday night, with Galekovic to join on Tuesday morning.
