Kashiwa: AFC Champions League quarter-finalists  moved up from sixth to third in the current J.League standings courtesy of Wednesday’s 2-0 victory over Vissel Kobe, as the domestic campaign returned following a brief break for the 2015 EAFF East Asian Cup.
Kashiwa took a 22nd minute lead through Brazilian striker Ederson before Naoki Wako, who scored the stoppage time winner in Kashiwa’s 2-1 defeat of Shandong Luneng (pictured), doubled the home side’s lead in the 72nd minute.
The victory saw Kashiwa take their points tally to the season to 12, one behind second-placed Kashima Antlers, who handed league leaders Sanfrecce Hiroshima their first defeat of the season, with Shuto Yamamoto’s 32nd minute strike ending Sanfrecce’s perfect start to the second stage.
Kashiwa will host 2013 continental champions Guangzhou Evergrande in the first leg of their AFC Champions League quarter-final clash on August 25, before travelling to China for the return fixture on September 15.
