Could Spurs stopper Hugo Lloris be set for a move to London giants Chelsea this summer?
Spurs stopper Hugo Lloris could be set for a surprise move to Premier League champions Chelsea.
Lloris yesterday hinted he would like to play in the Champions League and with Petr Cech looking to be heading out of Chelsea this looks like the perfect move.
Although it's likely that Hugo Lloris would play second choice as he would rather be 'no 1' but he will have to compete with Courtois. The other problem will be that Spurs will be reluctant to sell and especially not to a London rival.
Spurs will probably be after at least £20 million for him but Chelsea want to spend less around £10 million on a backup goalkeeper.
Although this deal looks unlikely it would make sense for it to work especially if Chelsea want to win the Premier League again next season.
It will also fit Mourinho's beliefs as he enjoys competition in the squad and because of this players unwilling to compete get offloaded such as Lukaku or De Bruyne.
Chelsea's hot prospects: Season review 2014-15
Read below for the season review from just a few of Chelsea's best youngsters - Dominic Solanke, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Jeremie Boga, Isaiah Brown and Charly Musonda.
As much as the Chelsea senior team were successful this season, the youth team also won the double claiming the UEFA Youth League and FA Youth Cup with many of the youngsters tipped to succeed. VAVEL explores the top prospects in the Chelsea youth system and analyse how they fared during the past twelve months.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek
After making his senior debut in a substitute appearance in a UEFA Champions League group stage match against Portuguese sideSporting Lisbon , the 19-year-old only had a fifteen minute cameo to show glimpses of his real potential. He made a rather short cameo against the 2014 Premier League champions, Manchester City, as he was only on for less than three minutes. However, when the title was wrapped up by the Blues, he was rewarded with a first-team start, his maiden one, during their 1-1 draw with Liverpool. He pulled off an impressive display, after some good tackles as well as passes in a clean, solid all-round performance before being taken off with twenty minutes left to play.
It was a quick turnaround to his second start, coming in a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Tony Pulis' West Brom side, but despite this, the teenager also impressed before being replaced midway through the second-half in place of fellow talented youngter, Nathan Áke.
Dominic Solanke
After signing his first professional contract in September, a month later he was a substitute for a game against Crystal Palace however he didn't play but his first appearance came shortly after in a UEFA Champions League group stage victory over NK Maribor, becoming the youngest Chelsea player to ever feature in the competition. He did not feature again but was a key part of the youth team's UEFA Youth Cup triumph and the FA Youth Cup victory as well. Being only 17 he will get no doubt get his chance in the upcoming seasons, especially having scored an eyewatering 41 goals in the 2014-15 campaign.
Charly Musonda
The young, talented Belgian attacking midfielder has been very impressing over the season for the youth teams despite not getting a chance in the senior squad. In March of this year, he signed a contract extension that committed himself to the west Londoners until 2019 which proves that he'll be involved in Jose Mourinho's plans at some stage, in the not-too-distant future. He started brightly to the season scoring a dozen before the Christmas break this earned him a call up to Belgium under 19's in late 2014.
Isaiah Brown
Brown started his season in fine form, scoring his first goals in a 5-0 win against Wycombe. He first made the Chelsea bench with a cup tie against Shrewsbury Town, however he was an unused substitute. He once again made in the bench in a Premier League game tipped to be the ''title decider'' against Manchester City however he was unused once again. However his first senior appearance came against former club West Brom, replacing Loic Remy with ten minutes left to play. Isaiah was instrumental in contributing to Chelsea's youth successes, alongside the likes of Tammy Abrahamand Solanke.
Jeremie Boga
This season he has had his best goal-scoring return of his career, hitting double figures and most recently making the bench for the senior squad's final game of the season against Sunderland where the Blues were crowned champions. He frequently plays in the number ten role, behind the central strike, and featured in both legs of this season's Youth Cup final victory over Manchester City.
Chelsea's Transfer Window: The ins and outs
With July 1 just around the corner this article speculates various news reports and whispers through the grapevine of who the champions of England may be looking to bring in and let go of for the forthcoming season.
Chelsea are Premier League Champions. Yet a busy summer is still expected. Rumours are flying, VAVEL take a look at the possible deals from Jose Mourinho.
OUT
Firstly one out that is all but confirmed is the Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba. Before Chelsea's final game of their title winning season he admitted that he would be leaving London and venturing for more first team football next season.
IN
This sparked many rumours one being the return of the promising England U21 stiker Patrick Bamford. The young clinical finisher picked up the Sky Bet championship player of the year in the middle of May and many would say it was well deserved. He scored 16 goals in 40 games and had an average pass accuracy of 70% over the whole season which is extremely good for a up and comer in a very tough, physical league.
Another factor towards Chelsea fans pondering over him coming back into the squad as a 3rd potentially 2nd choice striker would be his sublime goal and all round performance against Manchester City in early January in the FA Cup.
Throughout this game he showed he could compete with the strength of Mangala and the pace of Vincent Kompany. However many believe that this isn't enough and Mourinho will send him out on loan again for one more season with very quiet whispers of West Ham and Everton being interested in the promising 21 year old.
IN
A second and potentially more viable option for Mourinho would be the inclusion of Radamel Falcao. Many neutrals could see this as a potentially risky move but the Chelsea faithul may believe that Mourinho can reproduce some of his magic and revitalise Falcao's form of Porto and Atletico Madrid.
The deal would most probably be a loan with option to buy after a year with the fee probably being in the region of £17,000,000 to £25,000,000. This would probably be a more favourable deal in Mourinho's eyes and after the Falcao recently made a come get me plea whist on international duties with Colombia some websites have even begun to speculate the deal could be wrapped up as early as the end of next week.
OUT
The next story gaining some momentum involving people leaving the champions is probably the most unsung hero of the 2012 Champions League, John Obi Mikel.
Since he is now leaning more towards his 30's he is probably going to search for more first team football, potentially a mid table Premier League team or the likes of Sevilla and Valencia are said to be interested.
IN
The only real rumour that has popped up for Mikel's replacement would be 27 year old Luiz Gustavo in a recent interveiw he had admitted his desire to move to London and more specifcally Chelsea. However the £33,000,000 asking price may be a bit too much with FFP rules affecting everyones transfer business now and with the expected inclusion of Loftus Cheek next season Mourinho may not even see the need for a replacement.
OUT
Finally what could possibly be one of the biggest transfer saga's of this window, Petr Cech. Having been part of the back bone of Chelsea's most succesful and decade ever many Chelsea fans will be sad to see the big Czech leave.
However it is looking more and more inevitable every day. Plus it is no surprise that with 5 clean sheets in 7 games and winning every match he has taken part in, that most of Europe's biggest teams have took an interest in Cech's situation. The most concrete rumours being Arsenal, PSG and potentially Manchester United with most news outlets suggesting Chelsea will let him go for as little as £10,000,000.
IN
With Chelsea's next best goalkeeping options being Mitchell Beeney and Jamal Blackman, Mourinho may see this postition as a top priority for this window.
Chelsea were originally linked with the young Fulham goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli but recently reports have started to surface of Bosnian and Stoke keeper Asmir Begovic potentially taking over Petr Cech's bench warming role this season.
Early reports suggest the deal could be in the region of £12,000,000 and many would see this as an option Chelsea would be crazy to turn down.
Arsenal stars participating in the Copa America
Brendan Kennelly Looks at how the Copa America will affect the Arsenal team
Another season has just finished for Arsena,l with a third place finish and the Gunners' 12th success in the FA Cup. The 2014/2015 season will be regarded by most as a successful season for Arsene Wenger’s charges.
A lot of the success this season has been down to the sparking form of summer signing Alexis Sanchez, who scored 16 goals in the Premier League and, throughout the season, there was talk of the Chilean facing burnout as he played in most of Arsenal’s league campaign. While David Ospina has forced his way through at Arsenal to become the number one goalkeeper during the second half of the season
However the influential frontman’s season is not done quite yet as Chile head to the Copa America. which starts on Thursday. Should Chile do well in the tournament, which many feel they wil, this could be disastrous for Arsenal as he could be missing for the start of next season. With the form he showed throughout this season it would be a huge blow for Arsenal to lose their start man as Sanchez aims to fire La Roja to their very first Copa America title with Chile being runners up in 1979 and 1987, their best finish in this tournament. Alexis Sanchez could be a record breaker after this tournament as he is only nine caps shy of Chile’s all time caps record and he is also nine goals shy of Marcelo Salas’s record of 37 goals. So he will be hoping to lead Chile far into the tournament.
He is not the only Arsenal player going to the Copa America, as Colombian goalkeeper David Ospina will also be going and this is another huge loss to the Arsenal first team. Ospina has becomeWenger’s number one choice in goal during the second half of the season and he has been in good form, as he produced a host of top drawer performances during his tenure in goals this season. The shotstopper will be looking to guide Los Cafeteros to their second win in the Copa America after they last won the tournament in 2001, which they hosted and set a new Copa America record of conceding no goals and winning each match.
Arsenal target Arturo Vidal will also be playing for Chile alongside Sanchez, following an appearance in the Champions League final in Berlin. The Gunners have been looking at the Juventus man this summer, looking to improve their already strong midfield. The Gunners are also looking at a centre-back to replace to aging Per Mertesacker, with Nicolás Otamendi a prime target. He will be fighting for a place in the Argentinian defence. Long term targetGonazlo Higuain will also play for Italy as 'keeper Fernando Muslera will play for holders Uruguay.
So, as the Copa America begins to take centre stage, Arsenal fans will be watching the tournament with bated breath to see when they will get their players back and if they come back in one piece. This may also provide Sanchez and Ospina an opportunity to keep any momentum they have from their season with Arsenal going and, the further they get into the Copa America, the more momentum they will have when the return to the Arsenal squad for the 2015/2016 season.
With Chile and Colombia being two of the heavier hitters in this competition both will be expected to go far so that means that Sanchez and Ospina will not get much a rest so what will Arsene Wenger do to combat the burnout that these two players may face.
