The former Reds goalkeeper believes that the England star would have a tougher time at Manchester City than Anfield and feels that Brendan Rodgers is ready to lose him
Former Liverpool goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar has urged the club to "get rid" of Raheem Sterling, questioning the 20-year-old's qualities as a team player. The England international's refusal to sign a new contract at Anfield has prompted Manchester City to pursue a big-money deal, with Reds fans having turned on him late last season.
Grobbelaar - who made over 400 appearances for Liverpool - says that Sterling has "shot himself in the foot" by openly discussing his refusal of a new deal and the 57-year-old feels the club have a ready-made replacement in recent signing Roberto Firmino.
"I think Brendan Rodgers has actually played this very, very well," Grobbelaar told Perform.
"For me, I think Sterling has shot himself in the foot. Yes he can play in Europe at City but he's not going to find it easier playing for City than at Liverpool.
"Having looked at all the trials and tribulations the youngster has caused Liverpool, it's best to get rid of him.
"He's shown himself not to be a team player with Liverpool. He wants to go somewhere else, so let him go.
"With the money for him we've already acquired a player [Firmino] in a similar position for half his price who scores more goals."

Edin Dzeko’s agents has denied reports that he has held talks with Roma over a possible transfer of the Manchester City striker.
The Italian press has fuelled speculation that the Bosnia-Herzegovina international will move to the giallorossi as part of a deal that would take theRoma playmaker Adem Ljajic to City.
The Roma midfielder Miralem Pjanic said earlier this week that his compatriot Dzeko would go “running” to Roma but his agent, Irfan Redzepagic, brushed the claim aside.
“I was frankly surprised by Pjanic’s comments, unless he knows something that I don’t,” Redzepagic told the Italian radio station Rete Sport. “I have had no contact with Roma, nor am I aware of any talks between the two clubs.
“It’s not a financial issue, he simply doesn’t want to leave the Citizens.”
Dzeko joined City from Wolfsburg in 2011 and is under contract with Manuel Pellegrini’s side for another three seasons. The 29-year-old endured a difficult 2014-15 season, making just 12 Premier League starts for City and scoring six goals.
