The return leg matches of the Preliminary Round of the 2016 CAF Champions League will be played this weekend, and while most of the ‘big guns’ look on course to move into the next phase of the competition, Nigeria’s Enyimba and South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns will both need to overturn a deficit in order to progress.

Enyimba, who won back-to-back Champions League titles in 2003 and 2004, find themselves 1-0 down against Vipers of Uganda. The Nigerians lost the first leg in Kampala due to Erisa Ssekisambu’s goal, but will be confident of turning the tie in their favour in Port Harcourt on Sunday afternoon.

Sundowns, who were finalists in the Champions League back in 2001, must also overturn a 1-0 deficit when they host Chicken Inn of Zimbabwe. The South Africans currently top their domestic league and have a superb home record in 2015/16, making them odds-on favourites to emerge triumphant from the tie.

Other heavyweights such as Club Africain, AS Vita, Kaizer Chiefs, Stade Malien, Wydad Casablanca, ASEC Mimosas and Union Douala all look on course to progress into the First Round thanks to first leg wins of varying degrees of comfort, while the most intriguing clash of the weekend sees Ghana’s AshantiGold head to Algeria with a slender 1-0 lead for the return leg against MO Bejaia.

The 21 aggregate winners this weekend will move into the First Round, which will be played over the weekends of March 11-13 and 18-20. The following clubs are already through: Ferroviario Maputo, AC Leopards, Warri Wolves, Al Merreikh, ES Setif, TP Mazembe, Etoile du Sahel, CotonSport, Al Ahly, Al Hilal and Zamalek.
