Gor stroll past Langata Gremio

Eleven time domestic cup winners Gor Mahia strolled past Langata Gremio in the opening cup of the competition on Wednesday evening at the City Stadium.
Meddie Kagere scored the first goal in the first half and George Odhiambo and Dikir Glay added two more in the second half for the Kenyan Premier League champions to sail the next round of the tournament sponsored by GOtv.
Gor never got out of first gear in the entire game that at times tottered towards being a boring game as the Langata Gremio side made no much effort to surprise the giant league side.
Kagere snatched the ball off the hands of Gremier goalkeeper after his initial effort was stopped.
That was all Gor did in the first half in which they also saw their penalty taken by Karim Nizigiyimana go over the cross bar.
But Gor Mahia returned more purposeful in the second half and pinned their opponents in their half netting the two goals, first a neat through pass from Eric Ochieng to Odhiambo who rifled the ball into the net and another a Glay header after a Nizigiyimana cross.
In the absence of coach Frank Nuttal, his assistant Frank Ouna gave goalkeeper Jerim Onyango his first start of the season and there were also starting opportunities for Glay, Ernest Wendo, Ochieng and Odhiambo.

Keli to undergo medical at Nkana

AFC Leopards striker Jacob Keli has travelled to Ndola in Zambia to undergo a medical ahead of a proposed move to former FAZ Super League champions Nkana.
Supersport.com can reveal that the deal was crafted by David Owino "Calabar's agent George Bwana who is a former Gor Mahia Secretary General.
Speaking to supersport.com before his departure to Zambia, an elated Keli hoped for the best as he awaited to meet the club officials on Wednesday who were reportedly prepared to offer the striker a lucrative contract.
"I am really happy with the turn of events as it has been a trying time in my career especially at AFC Leopards where the situation turned out badly due to the financial constraints by the club meaning we could not be paid our salaries yet we had families to take care of."
"Zambia is a great football country and i hope everything goes as planned so that i can join Nkana," Keli told supersport.com.
Keli who has scored eight goals this season is expected to undergo a medical later Wednesday and if successful, he will be presented with a three year contract to start life afresh in the city of Ndola.
Nkana’s Secretary Ken Mwansa was quoted in Zambia’s daily newspaper, The Post, saying the deal is as good as done, with the player’s form and experience the major force behind their interest.

Masika leaves Sofapaka

Eric Masika has parted ways with Sofapaka just eight days after joining the former Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions.
The defender joined Sofapaka from Ushuru FC midway through June but has been released even before finalizing a three year deal he had been handed by the club.
The player’s career has hit a low in the recent times and he failed to make an impact at Ushuru FC after joining from AFC Leopards at the start of the year.
The club’s Secretary General Mr. Emmanuel Kayoyi only confirmed that the club has released the player but did not divulge further information, only stating that it was meant to give him time to get a new employer before the midseason transfer period ends.
“I can confirm he has been released. He has other ambitions and it was only fair that we release him in time before the transfer window closes. We wish him the best,” Kayoyi said.
Sources at the club indicate he was released due to fitness reasons though media reports indicate that the player asked to leave as the club is looking to sign other players who serve in his same position – central defence.
Masika has previously played for Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards.

Chemelil defender eyes Gor upset

Titus Wamalwa is confident Chemelil Sugar can spring a surprise on Gor Mahia when they meet in Kenyan Premier League action over the weekend.
The second leg of league action kicks off Friday with a full round of matches set to be played all across the division and Chemelil will host Gor in probably the highlight of the weekend.
Gor were comfortable winners when the two sides met in the first leg and they will be looking to continue where they left off in the first leg.
According to Wamalwa though, the clash represents a chance for Chemelil to also lay down their own marker for the second half of the season.
“This is a good opportunity for us to show that we can play to our strengths and I believe we will do it,” the former AFC Leopards man says.
“Gor are a very good team. They have proven that they are the best in the league over a number of years and they will be hard to beat”.
“However, we are confident we will give them a hard time. I think that it is very important that we are still in the game in the second half and when we get our chances, we take them.”
“They are unbeaten but this is football and anything can happen. Do not be surprised if Chemelil end up winners,” he added.
Chemelil have had a slow season so far and with 15 points are only three above the relegation places, something Wamalwa knows they have to improve on.
“We have to show that we are better than our current po

Gor Mahia 3-0 Langata Gremio: K’Ogalo reach second

Goals from Meddie Kagere, George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo and Liberian defender Dirkir Glay ensured that K'Ogalo remain in knockout competition
Gor Mahia cruised to the second round of GOtv Shield tournament after seeing off Langata Gremio 3-0 in a match played at City Stadium on Wednesday.
Goals from Meddie KagereGeorge ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo and Liberian defender Dirkir Glay were enough to send K’Ogalo through as they remained in contention for a league and domestic cup double.
Gor Mahia assistant coach Frank Ouna opted to rest regular starters with custodian Boniface Oluoch paving way for skipper Jerim Onyango. Musa Mohammed also returned from injury to marshal the defence alongside Glay, Karim Nizigiyimana and Abouba Sibomana.
Ernest Wendo was handed a start in the midfield alongside Eric Ochieng’, Ronald Otieno and George Odhiambo. K’Ogalo started off well with Kagere terrorizing Gremio’s rear guard. In the 10th minute, Kagere put Gor Mahia ahead after capitalizing on a mistake by Gremio goalkeeper to tap home from a rebound.

Gor Mahia should have stretched their lead three minutes later but defender Nzigiyimana failed to convert from the penalty spot. With the penalty save, Gremio tried to come into the match and forced Jerim Onyango to a nice save in the 20th minute.
The lower league side were determined to shock the league champions but they looked nervous when approaching Gor Mahia’s danger zone. Gor Mahia went close again in 23rd minute as Omino failed to score after being put through by Musa Mohammed.
Kagere should have doubled Gor Mahia’s lead and grab his second of the day at the stroke of half-time but watched helplessly as his bicycle kick from George Odhiambo’s close was saved by Gremio goalkeeper. On resumption, Gremio continued to contain Gor Mahia, who resorted to slow down the game.
Ronald Omino missed another chance for Gor Mahia before ‘Blackberry’ powered home the second goal from a goalmouth melee. Another chance for Gor Mahia went begging minutes later as Timothy Otieno shot wide while Innocent Wafula failed to score from an open chance.
Glay then calmed Gor Mahia’s nerves grabbing the winning goal in 79th minute and thwarted any lingering hopes of Gremio making a comeback.
