CHAN EAGLES FLY OUT TO RWANDA

Super Eagles B Team will fly out of Johannesburg, South Africa, this morning for Rwanda ahead of this year’s Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) that kicks-off in Kigali tomorrow. The Nigeria team that has been camping in Pretoria since January 2 will depart 8am local time and officials said yesterday, that flying time to Kigali is estimated to be three hours.
The played two friendly matches against Angola (1-1), and defeated Cote d’Ivoire 2-1 ahead of their opening match against the Mena of Niger Republic next Monday. Tunisia and Guinea are also in their first round group. Nigeria finished third in the last CHAN played in 2014 in South Africa.
Already Nigeria’s attacking midfielder, Ikechukwu Ibenegbu, has said he is wholly focused at the forthcoming CHAN in Kigali, Rwanda.Ibenegbu said other matters, including his club’s future career will be given undivided attention after the side are done with the football showpiece in Kigali. “Right now I’m not thinking of any other thing else than the coming African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Kigali, Rwanda. Thereafter I can now give other things including my club’s future some attentions.
“So I’m not thinking of Warri Wolves, league or any other thing at the moment but the CHAN,” he told supersports.com. The veteran Sandy Eagles player added, “I want to give my all to the team to ensure we do not miss the podium dance when the CHAN curtain falls on February 7.
“We came close to winning the title the last time in South Africa, but ended up with a bronze so we want to win the title for the first time for Nigeria. “Our preparations both at home and South Africa have been excellent we hope to take the winning mentality to Kigali.”
Bartholomew Ikechukwu ‘Mosquito’ Ibenegbu is the oldest Nigeria star in Rwanda as he will be 30 next month, while Ifeanyi Matthew is the youngest as he will celebrate his 19th birthday two days after the team’s opening match against Niger. Ibenegbu has jersey No 12, Matthew will wear No 8 and top striker Tunde Adeniji has No 9.
Sunshine Stars midfielder, Paul Onobi, will wear jersey No 10 when the Eagles begin battle with skipper Chima Akas sporting shirt No 3.


CHAN: Eagles to get $2000 winning bonus


Super Eagles players will receive the sum of $2000 each for a win at the 2016 African Nations Championship billed to commence tomorrow in Kigali, Rwanda. A source in the team currently preparing for the championship in South Africa disclosed that the team would not earn similar amount as the A team. Sunday Oliseh’s men would earn $1000 for a draw. The technical crew will earn $4,000 for a win, and $2,000 for a draw.
Meanwhile, the Eagles will be lodged at the four-star Hill View Hotel in Kigali during the group stages of the competition.
The hotel is located in the Kiyovu district, inside the Kigali City Centre and will house the Eagles for 11 days before they leave Kigali for Gisenyi where they will play their final group game against Guinea on January 26.
