World Cup qualifying round-up: Aleksandar Mitrovic double fires Serbia to victory over Austria

The Newcastle striker sent his country top of Group D, while Brighton striker Tomer Hemed also hit a brace to help Israel beat Liechtenstein


Newcastle striker Aleksandar Mitrovic fired Serbia top of World Cup qualifying Group D as his double helped sink Austria 3-2 in Belgrade.
The Toon hitman twice put his country ahead only to be pegged back by first Marcel Sabitzer then Marc Janko.
Southampton midfielder Dusan Tadic got the winner which leaves Serbia clear of the Republic of Ireland on goal difference.
Elsewhere, Brighton striker Tomer Hemed also notched a brace as Israel beat minnows Liechtenstein 2-1.

Croatia had too much for Finland

Juventus forward Mario Mandzukic hit his 28th goal for Croatia as they won 1-0 in Finland to stay top of Group I.
Ukraine enjoyed a comfortable evening against Kosovo, running out 3-0 winners to remain unbeaten in qualifying.
Artem Kravets opened the scoring before strikes from Andriy Yarmolenko and Ruslan Rotan rounded off the scoring.
Iceland sit above Ukraine and below Croatia in second place after they beat Turkey 2-0 thanks to goals from Omer Toprak (OG) and Alfred Finnbogason.
