The Philadelphia Union emerged from an arduous road trip to Orlando and Colorado with a pair of ties that was enough to slide into third place  in the Soccer America MLS Power Rankings behind the Rapids and FC Dallas, which held second by securing a 0-0 tie at San Jose.

Philly took over third from the LA Galaxy, beaten 3-2 at Montreal on a last-second Didier Drogba free kick. The New York Red Bulls leapfrogged Toronto FC into ninth place with a 3-0 triumph. New England climbed out of the basement by beating the Sounders, 2-1.

After a handful of league games midweek, the U.S. teams take a break until June 18. The three Canadian teams will play qualifiers in the domestic competition that determines a Concacaf Champions League representative.

3. PHILADELPHIA (5-3-5), 4..Twice the Union rallied on the road to get a tie and both displays were commendable. Brian Carroll’s equalizer in the second minute of stoppage time cancelled out a Rapids goal in the 87th minute and extended Philly’s unbeaten run to seven games. Andre Blake’s penalty-kick save set the stage for Philly to grab a 2-2 tie in Florida marked by an assist and equalizing goal by substitute defender Ken Tribbett, who replaced Joseph Yaro (shoulder injury).

4. LA GALAXY (5-2-5), 3.A nine-game unbeaten run ended in Montreal when keeperBrianRowebobbled Drogba’s long-range free kick into the net. Giovani dos Santos’ sixth goal of the season opened the scoring and Mike Magee’s equalizer pulled the Galaxy even but Rowe’s error doomed the Galaxy to its first loss in the last five road games.

5. VANCOUVER (6-6-3), 4. The ‘Caps needed an Octavio Rivero equalizer and a spectacular save byDavid Ousted to get a tough point at home against Houston. Rivero scored his second goal from aCristian Techera corner kickand aMauro Manotasheader hit the crossbar. They scored with both teams down to 10 men; Pedro Morales drew a red card by scuffling with an opponent. ‘Caps have taken 15 of 24 points at home (4-1-3 record) but are still .500 overall with a goal difference of minus-2 (23 scored, 25 conceded).

6. SAN JOSE (5-3-5), 6. The Quakes were at home yet mustered just six shots in a game almost totally devoid of scoring chances. They limited FCD to just five shots as keeper David Binghamracked up his fourth shutout. Before the Centenario break, they play at Portland, which they defeated, 2-1, in Week 2.

7. MONTREAL (5-4-4), 9. Drogba’s dramatic winnercapped a display ofineptitude and brilliance. A comic defensive mistake allowed L.A. to take the lead, a great counterattack polished off byIgnacio Piatti and Lucas Ontivero’s laser strike into the top corner turned around the advantage. The victory ended a six-game run of losses or ties.

8. REAL SALT LAKE (6-4-2), 8.The fourth game of five straight on the road produced the third loss of that stretch. Luke Mulholland and Joao Plata assisted on each other’s goals but Plata squandered a penalty kick that would have tied the match, 2-1, in first half stoppage time and RSL fell behind, 4-1, before rallying to no avail. Despite conceding four Nick Rimandorecorded six saves and RSL dropped to its third loss in the last six games.

9. NEW YORK RED BULLS (6-7-1), 10.. The fastest hat trick from the start of a game (27 minutes) added another entry to the impressive MLS resume of Bradley Wright-Phillips as the Red Bulls rolled to their third straight victory and also posted their fourth shutout in the last six games. Two assists by Sasha Kljestan moved him into the league lead with 10.

10. TORONTO FC (4-5-4), 7.The second visit this season to Red Bull Arena produced a very different result. Sebastian Giovinco hobbled off with an abductor injury but will have a three-week break from league action to get well. TFC is winless in its last four league games and plays Montreal in its Canadian Championship opener Wednesday.

11. ORLANDO CITY SC (3-3-7), 11.The rebirth of Kevin Molino, who missed most of his first MLS season because of injury, added a dramatic twist when he scored deep into stoppage time – after assisting on Julio Baptista goal -- to snag a 2-2 tie at Yankee Stadium. On Wednesday, he and Cyle Larin scored three minutes apart against Philly for a 2-1 lead that fizzled within four minutes when OCSC conceded an equalizer. Kaka failed to convert a penalty kick as OCSC extended its home unbeaten streak to 13 games, but tied for the fifth time in seven matches this season.

12. NEW YORK CITY FC (4-4-6), 12.The Yankee Stadium record is 1-2-5 following the squandering of a two-goal lead. Sweet assists by R.J. Allen and Andrea Pirlo set up goals for Frederic Brilliant andDavid Villa, respectively, but Villa slipped as he skied a penalty kick over the bar that would have iced a victory.

13. D.C. UNITED (4-5-4), 15.. He needed some time to regain fitness after a layoff necessitated by medical concerns and had to wait out a pair of weather delays, but just 33 seconds into his MLS debut, Alhaji Kamara capitalized on a goalkeeping gaffe to score the only goal of a road win. Bill Hamid got the shutout in his first 2016 appearance following four months of recovery from surgery to repair a torn meniscus.

14. PORTLAND (4-6-4), 13.Renowned for his slick skills and keen vision, Diego Valeri showed he can get rugged as well. He won a duel for a 50-50 ball to score from a sharp angle in the14th minute and sparked several attacks after the Timbers had conceded an equalizer, but without success. Five saves by Jake Gleeson included a rising, raking shot he directed over the crossbar.

15. COLUMBUS (3-4-5), 17.The second Kamara to play in MLS, Ola Kamara, surpassed his Crew predecessor by bagging a hat trick, a feat Kei Kamara has yet to do. He took 10 shots and in addition to his three goals hit the goalpost on another attempt as Crew SC fired off 21 shots. Keeper Steve Clark registered just two saves yet made one of the game’s top plays by thwarting Plata from the penalty spot.

16. SPORTING KANSAS CITY (5-8-2), 16.Two long weather delays left just enough time for a crushing loss. Keeper Tim Melia’s challenge for a cross came up short in the 87th minute and the resulting loose ball wound up in SKC’s net. The attack produced 18 shots yet was blanked for the third time in the last five games.

17. NEW ENGLAND (3-4-7), 20.. Rookie FemiHollinger-Janzen scored his second goal in the past three games (both wins) as the Revs rallied to win. Andrew Farrell played his first game at right back since 2014, with London Woodberry sliding into the middle. Lee Nguyen, who had tied the game from the penalty spot, set up a chance that enabled the Revs to score a second goal in the fifth consecutive game. But they have also conceded 11 goals in those five games.

18. SEATTLE (4-7-1), 14. One of the Sounders’ other Homegrown signings, Aaron Kovar, marked a solid game on the wing by scoring in the seventh minute, but a questionable PK triggered a comeback they couldn’t stem. The road record is 0-4-1 and only one team, the Fire, has scored fewer than Seattle’s 11 goals.

19. HOUSTON (3-7-3), 19.A nice goal by DaMarcus Beasley, his first of the season, earned the Dynamo a point. Alex had another hit-and-miss game; his slick pass set up Beasley’s goal but he saw a red card after tangling with Morales.

20. CHICAGO (2-5-5), 18.ADavid Accam goalcancelled out aTimbers opener created by a skied clearance and subsequent stumble by Rodrigo Ramos.Accam went the full 90 for just the third time this season; he’s scored in each of those games.
