The first half of the 2015-16 season has come to a close for Americans in Europe. It was a great fall campaign for Fabian Johnsonat Borussia Moenchengladbach, which was unbeaten in all 11 games after his return. John Brooks' Hertha Berlin is also in the Bundesliga top four at the winter break. Here's our top five, along with all stats for players in the top level of European leagues.
TOP FIVE:
1. Fabian Johnson (Borussia Moenchengladbach). In addition to his four Bundesliga goals for 'Gladbach, he scored two goals and added two assists in its first-ever Champions League campaign.
2. John Brooks (Hertha Berlin). Once he got over injuries that kept him out of the Hertha lineup for much of September and October, Brooks was outstanding at center back and even contributed two goals.
3. Ethan Horvath (Molde). The 20-year-old keeper from Colorado was put in the Molde goal in midseason when Orjan Nyland was sold to German club Ingolstadt and led the 2014 Norwegian champions to first place in their Europa League group.
4. Geoff Cameron (Stoke City). After skipping the Gold Cup at the request of Stoke City, he started for the Potters at center back for the first two months of the season and won back his starting job for the U.S. national team. After he returned to the Stoke lineup in December following a thigh injury, he moved into central midfield.
5. Bobby Wood (Union Berlin). After scoring winning goals against the Netherlands and Germany, Wood earned a transfer from 1860 Munich, where he had fallen out of favor, to Union Berlin, another German second division club of modest means. His seven goals lead all Americans in Europe.
