Acting Fifa president 'falls asleep' at his own press conference

Some would say these are exciting times at Fifa - a replacement for Sepp Blatter will soon be appointed, talks over expanding the World Cup to 40 teams are being held and two 'high profile' members were arrested just this morning.

Yet it seems none of that has been enough to hold the complete attention of acting president Issa Hayatou.

Video footage of the man in charge of football's world governing body during Blatter's 90-day suspension appears to show the 69-year-old falling asleep.

The Cameroonian's eyes appear to be closed and his head struggles to stay up before his eyes light up and dart around the room as if checking to see if anyone had noticed. Unfortunately, they had.

It was filmed following his own speech on reforms during a meeting of Fifa's ExCo held in Zurich.

A new Fifa president is due to be elected in February.

Fifa corruption: Two more officials arrested in Swiss dawn raid

Two more Fifa officials have been arrested in a dawn raid at a hotel in Zurich, where Fifa's executive committee was meeting to vote on reforms to football's governing body. Police entered the hotel Baur au Lac hotel at 6am before two people were taken to waiting black vans.

In May, police arrested seven Fifa officials in similar raids, some of which also took place at the Baur au Lac. Swiss authorities have confirmed that two arrests were made over allegations of taking money for selling market rights for football tournaments in Latin America – including World Cup qualifying matches.

"They are being held in custody pending their extradition. According to the US arrest requests, they are suspected of accepting bribes of millions of dollars," said the Swiss Federal Office of Justice. "The high-ranking Fifa officials are alleged to have taken the money in return for selling marketing rights in connection with football tournaments in Latin America, as well as World Cup qualifying matches." Fifa issued a short statement saying that it understood the arrests had occurred, would cooperate fully with the investigation and had no further comment to make.

A number of news agencies are reporting that the two men arrested are Fifa vice-presidents Alfredo Hawit of Honduras and Juan Angel Napout of Paraguay. Hawit was made interim president of Concacaf, the confederation of countries from North and Central America and the Caribbean, after president Jeffrey Webb was arrested in May. Napout is the president of Conmebol, the South American confederation.

Fifa president Sepp Blatter and Uefa president Michel Platini were not among those arrested. Both are currently suspended from Fifa while being investigated by the ethics committee.
