BARCELONA’S Brazilian superstar Neymar has confirmed Manchester City want to lure him away to the Premier League, and he’s refused to rule out a move away from the Nou Camp.
Neymar was asked if he was aware of City’s interest overnight and told reporters “yes, yes”.
Neymar, who was also recently linked to Manchester United, was also asked whether he could leave La Liga’s giants in the future.
He replied: “I don’t know, life is long.”
Neymar has scored 13 goals in 14 La Liga games this season as part of the top attacking unit in world football.
Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has tipped the 23-year-old to become the world’s best player after Lionel Messi’s reign ends.
Bartomeu said: “Neymar will be the star of the game in the future, even if he is already a key figure right now.”
Neymar cost Barca £49 million when he moved from Santos in Brazil. He has three years remaining on his contract.
Neymar’s father and agent, Neymar Santos Sr said last month: “We’ve begun contract renewal talks, but there are outstanding issues that concern us, and which need to be resolved.
“We are not thinking of leaving Spain but we have a problem. We’ve never experienced such major tax issues.
“I don’t want to use the word persecution, but if the working environment here is not good, we won’t be able to remain in Spain and will have to leave the country.”
Arsenal midfield stop gap
Arsenal are looking to complete a £5m January move for Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny.
The Gunners have first choice defensive midfielder Francis Coquelin and back up Mikel Arteta on the injury list, leaving Mathieu Flamini as the only fit option.
Mirror Sport revealed Arsenal have agreed a fee with Basel subject to personal terms and a medical.
Talks are understood to be now well advanced and Elneny hopes to complete the switch soon after the transfer window opens.
Elneny was allowed to fly home for Christmas but is expected to travel back to London to complete the move to Arsenal.
The Mirror said Elneny is a perfect fit for Arsenal “as he is only 23, has good energy, is good value and his wages may also be cheaper than the likes of Mathieu Flamini, Mikel Arteta and Tomas Rosicky who are all on big money.”
The paper said the club would look to boost the midfield stocks further at the end of the season with Southampton’s Victor Wanyama the preferred option.
Diego Costa welcome in Madrid
Cerezo refuses to rule out the Spain international rejoining the La Liga outfit:
“Right now, Diego is a Chelsea player and he has to focus on Chelsea.
