The Lions continued their unbeaten run on home soil as Sehnaj Singh scored an injury time equalizer to break the Blasters’ hearts…
Delhi Dynamos salvaged a 3-3 draw against Kerala Blasters in an Indian Super League (ISL) encounter at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in the capital on Thursday. Gustavo dos Santos (7') opened the scoring before Chris Dagnall (9'), Joao Coimbra (30') and Antonio German (39') struck for the visitors. Adil Nabi (40') the pulled one back for the home team before Sehnaj Singh (90' + 2') grabbed the equalizer in stoppage time.
Having secured a semi-finals berth, Roberto Carlos made as many as six changes to the team that won against NorthEast United. Subhasish Chowdhury, Serginho Greene, Gustavo Dos Santos, John Arne Riise, Shylo Malsawmtulanga and Adil Nabi were included in the starting eleven.
Terry Phelan too made wholesale changes. Sandip Nandy, Bruno Perone, Rodrigo, Cavin Lobo, Mehtab Hossain, Ishfaq Ahmed and Joao Coimbra made their way into the first eleven. Sandesh Jhingan and Peter Ramage started as the two full-backs while Rodrigo and Bruno Perone were the preferred centre-back pairing.
It took just seven minutes for the home side to take the lead. Florent Malouda played a ball over the top of Kerala's defence for Dos Santos. The Brazilian’s run caught Perone unaware as he calmly slotted the ball past an onrushing Nandy to make it 1-0.
Their lead lasted for less than two minutes however. A cross by Ramage from the right saw Anas go in for a headed clearance and miss the ball altogether. The ball fell for Dagnall who only had to apply the finishing touch to equalize.
The visitors were on the attack and they should have scored their second as Ramage’s ball across the face of goal only needed a touch but Dagnall couldn’t get on the end of it.
In the 25th minute, the visitors found the back of the net but the goal was disallowed due to an alleged foul inside the box. Mehtab’s corner was punched away by Subashish but only against Perone. The ball went straight up and the custodian ended up putting it into his own net. The referee blew his whistle as he deemed Dagnall to have fouled the goalkeeper.
Kerala did get their second goal in the 30th minute. German played a ball through to Coimbra who made space between Riise and Ralte and his left-footed curling effort found the top corner to give the away side the lead.
German then played Dagnall through on the left who got beyond Anas and his left-footed shot was kept out by Subhasish.
Carlos made a tactical alteration as he shifted Greene into the midfield and moved Sehnaj into the right-back position.
Mehtab Hossain put a ball into the box in the 39th minute which was latched on to by German and his shot on the turn caught the goalkeeper unaware to make it 3-1 to the visitors.
However, Nabi pulled one back immediately in the very next move. Shylo’s ball over the top of the Kerala defence was headed home by Nabi into the far corner.
The home side should have restored parity immediately as Malouda got past Jhingan and Ishfaq and his cross across the face of goal was blazed over by Greene in the 42nd minute. Then Dos Santos’ effort from the edge of the box went inches wide.
At the other end, German cut inside from the right and his powerful effort was parried away by the Delhi custodian.
Three minutes after the restart, the home side had the chance to equalize. Nabi played a delightful cross to Greene whose header beat Nandy in the Kerala goal but flew over the crossbar.
Around the hour mark, German plays a ball for Dagnall who was closed down by Riise and Anas. He played it back for an onrushing Lobo whose shot from teh edge of the box was deflected for a corner.
Kerala’s first chance in the second half came only in the 71st minute. Pulga won the ball in the middle and found Dagnall whose first shot was blocked by Riise and the second attempt was saved by Subhasish.
The Lions should have been awarded a penalty in the following minute. Gadze played a through-ball for Dos Santos who was held back by Jhingan and his eventual shot under pressure went wide.
Nandy made a crucial save for the visitors as he denied Gadze in a one-on-one situation after Nabi played the Ghanaian striker through on the left.
There was a twist in the tale as Sehnaj Singh scored a gem of a an equalizer in the second minute of injury time. His shot from range went straight into the back of the net with the goalkeeper beaten at the near post.

FULL TIME What a game and a spirited effort from Delhi to win a point.
90+4‘ Delhi continue to raid the Kerala box and the attacks and the shot was from outside the box. The clock ticks down and the two teams get a share of the spoils.
90 +2′ Delhi 3-3 Kerala (Sehnaj) Superb strike and it is salvation for Delhi after the attacks relentlessly flowed in throughout the second half
88′ Kerala pass the ball around inside their own half. Players have tired 0ut and Gustavo wins it back for Delhi and has a shot from 30 yards out. It fizzes over the bar
84′ Cross is floated in and Sandip clashes with Adil. The goalkeeper is back on his feet and Gadze gets into the area and shot is blocked.
82‘ Scrappy play and as the next goal would seal the contest.
79′ What a chance and that could cost Delhi dear!! Gadze goes on a powerful run and plays a one-two with Vicinius. Space opened up and all it needed was a shot but it was up and over the bar. Shame!
Substitutions: Vicinius comes on for Mulder and Francis comes on for Mama
75′ Kerala on the ball and German twists and turns, playing in a deep position.
72‘ End to end stuff here and the score could have been 4-3 by now. First, space opens up for Dagnall but the shot lacked an angle on it. At the other end, Sandip comes out and tries to save a shot from Dos Santos, who dinks the ball but it rolls out wide. The Brazilian asks for a penalty.
70‘ Coimbra, Kerala’s goalscorer walks out and he is replaced by Pulga.
68′ Delhi win a free kick; it is the 11th foul Kerala have committed. Perone can’t hand;e the trickery of Dos Santos. Riise takes the shot…..goes out of play as the Liverpool legend can’t get power and direction on his shot. The ball goes underneath the wall. He vociferously appeals for a corner but the referee is unmoved.
Another change and this time it is Kerala: Mehtab out, Rahul Bheke in
66′ Fantastic run from Dos Santos and the ball is cleared out. The Brazilian skips and twists and turns to get to the byline and was poised to square the ball but Kerala clear it out.
Florent Malouda is replaced by Richard Gadze for Delhi
63‘ Roy has more nervy moments as he punches a corner clear. Attack fizzles out at Kerala fail to capitalise from a Lobo corner.
61′ Nice set-up by Dagnall there. The ball was cleared out from the corner and Kerala’s No 9 took it all by himself. He cut it back for Lobo in the centre and the shot was deflected out for a corner.
59′ Now Kerala are on the attack. German drops his left shoulder and runs with it. He looks set to have a crack but Riise stands like a rock to deny him.
57′ There are more attacks flooding the Kerala area. The away side have to be watchful as it is getting closer and closer. Here again, Malouda gets to the byline with ease and takes a cross cum shot. The ball rolls to the keeper.
54′ More attacks from Delhi. Mama has a shot and oooh! What a waste of an effort. He had time and space and was going for the Riise technique. He ends up slicing the ball and it ends up going nowhere near the target.
52′ Tiki-Taka from Delhi and there is a purpose to this passage of play. The ball is shunted out from flank to flank. Around 25 passes were exchanged and Greene’s cross is terrible and it goes out for goal-kick
50′ Stoppage in play as Sandeep goes down. He needs some treatment and is almost called into action straight away. Malouda gets some space and unleashes a shot goalwards. Tame one
48‘ Delhi on the frontfoot and the card comes out of the referee’s pocket! Malouda goes on another one of his powerful surges and Mehtab trips him and promptly goes in the book.
47′ Nabi gets the ball deep into the Kerala half and tries to bulldoze his way into the box. The ball is kicked out.
45′ Delhi starts things off in the second half.
Half Time What a half of football!! No game has had so many goals in the space of 45 minutes and both the defenses and the two goalkeepers are to be blamed for this one. It may end up as a 7-6 scoreline at the end of it.
45+1′ Not the ideal baptism for Roy as he spills another shot and Kerala could have got their fourth. German took a punt with his left foot from outside the box and Delhi defense had to take rearguard action to clear the ball behind.
44′ Back and forth, end to end stuff but Delhi have the momentum. Everything is going through Malouda at the moment and this game desperately needs a half-time whistle. It is getting rather chaotic.
41′ Almost another goal there. Fantastic play from Malouda on the right, who is getting into the contest after being out of it for so long. The cross was swung in and the ball was booted out in the six-yard area. There were players preying in and that could have so easily been the equaliser.
39′ GOAL!!! Delhi 2-3 Kerala (Adil Nabi) This is getting hard to keep track of now. This was straight from the kick off. Mama floats a good cross in and Adil Nabi heads it perfectly and the ball lands into the net. Cool finish and game on
38′ GOAL!!! Delhi 1-3 Kerala (Antonio German) What a goal!! stunning effort from a corner. The ball was in the area. German spun 180 degrees before whacking it to the top corner
37′ Saved!! German and Dagnall combine and the Delhi defense see this one out. Lovely through ball to set up Dagnall, whose shot is parried away and Delhi kick it out for a corner.
36′ Delhi look in complete command when on the ball. They continue to raid the right flank but make precious little with all the possession. Kerala have the ball.
33′ Malouda gets a bit of space on the left and walks into it. He wins a corner and takes an inswinging dead ball. The follow up delivery is poor as well and is too close to the keeper.
31′ Boy, this is not good practise for Delhi before the semi-finals get under way
29′ GOAL!!! Delhi 1-2 Kerala (Joao Coimbra) Rock a boat celebration after a stunning chip. German passes the ball to the Portuguese, who had suddenly burst into the box. He cuts to his left and sees the goalkeeper off his line and delicately chips the ball over the keeper. What a sumptuous finish
28′ Kerala dictating terms again with the ball at their feet. Ishfaq was in a good position to get a cross in but it was cleared out by the staunch Delhi defense.
26′ What on earth happened there? Controversial decision made by the referee and Dagnall is furious with it. He is at the official’s face as a scrap in the box from a Kerala corner helps the ball to bob up in the air. Roy and Riise were going for it and the goakeeper parries it into his own net but alas, the whistle blew against the Kerala No 9. Confusion and Kerala might consider themselves unlucky
24′ Kerala get the ball back and German threatens with his long legs but Anas does well to keep a check on the Englishman and the boots the ball out for a corner.
23′ Dagnall looks good to head the ball home, meeting a cross from the left but a foul on Riise ends the attack as the referee blows the whistle.
21′ Build-up, Build-up and more Build-up. It looks like Roberto Carlos has taken it upon himself to show Real Madrid what they should be doing to match up to their arch-rivals. As we have found out over the years with Barcelona too, their football has little significance without an end product.
17′ Delhi get the ball back and knock it around in their own half. Lovely tiki-taka play on the left but yet again, they find it hard to get to the byline and create opportunities. The attack comes to dead.
15′ Scrappy play from both ends but clearly there are no clear cut shots that have been taken. In came a shot from Ishfaq and it is blocked.
11′ It is Kerala who are looking the more threatening of the two sides. They are playing with a greater bit of relief. They lack a bit of bit in attack though and German is making some good diagonal runs.
9′ GOAL!!! Delhi 1-1 Kerala (Chris Dagnall) Game on! Delhi’s high line is punished. Kerala’s No 9 beats the offside trap and takes a shot. Roy saves the initial effort from point-blank range but can’t do much to halt the striker from slotting the reboun into the net.
6′ GOAL!!! Delhi 1-0 Kerala (Gustavo Dos Santos) Delhi get the ball back and they ponderously get it out of their half but is as easy as they come. Malouda cuts in and chips the ball with his right. Dos Santos runs in and taps the ball into the net. The goalkeeper gets a hand but cannot stop the ball from going into the back of the net.
4′ Kerala having a decent spell on the ball and they threaten the Delhi box. A decent cross is missing and the away side need to start over again.
2′ Delhi have the ball and calmly knock it around at the back. It looks more of a training ground routine before Dos Santos is fouled by Jhingan. The attack fizzles out.
