Preview: Ahly seek league redemption amid board troubles
Ahly players aren't affected by the current administration trouble according to the club's assistant coach Mohamed Abdel-Azim
Ahly will be seeking a morale-boosting win when they face newly-promoted outfit Aswan in the Egyptian Premier League at Alexandria's Borg El-Arab Stadium on Tuesday.
Sunday's decision to dissolve Ahly's board adds more woes for the Cairo giants who are already under fire for delivering a string of poor performances since the start of the season.
Cairo administrative court dissolved Ahly's board after accepting the proceedings of a lawsuit that nullified the 2014 elections due to a "procedural failure."
The board, led by Chairman Mahmoud Taher, announced he would remain in charge temporarily after appealing the decision on Monday.
Ahly's assistant coach Mohamed Abdel-Azim believes that his side will not be affected by the case, confirming that players are not concerned with this kind of problems.
On Saturday, the Reds stumbled for the third time in four matches after being held to a draw by Wadi Degla, having squandered a host of goal-scoring chances.
The draw left Ahly ninth on the table with 13 points from seven matches, eight behind leaders Maqassa who have played three more games. Aswan are sitting in 14th spot with eight points from ten games.
Ahly are expected to have an easy test on Tuesday, facing a side who have secured a single league win, lost in four matches and shared the spoils in five games.
Ahly's absentees
Against Aswan, Ahly will be missing midfielder Saleh Gomaa due to suspension, while defender Sabry Rahil was dropped from the squad.
Defender Bassem Aly has joined the club's injury list alongside with key holding midfielder Hossam Ashour.
Ahly’s Portuguese tactician Jose Peseiro may rely on rookie midfielder Ahmed Hamdy to cover the absence of both Gomaa and Ashour.
Peseiro praised the team's performance against Wadi Degla despite the stalemate. The Red Devils dominated the game in terms of possession and created many chances but the players failed to capitalise on their opportunities.
He said he is working to improve the team's efficiency as the star-studded squad has only managed to score seven goals in seven games.
