The U.S. women’s national team will open its camp to prepare for Olympic qualifying on Jan. 5 in Carson, California. Head coach Jill Ellis named 26 players for the camp. She will be without seven 2015 world champions. Four players -- Shannon BoxxLori Chalupny,Lauren Holiday and Abby Wambach -- have retired, while Christie Rampone and Megan Rapinoe are injured and Amy Rodriguez is pregnant with her second child. The squad includes 17-year-oldMallory Pugh.

“This camp begins the next chapter of this program,” said Ellis. “We’ll have just over two weeks together to begin to build cohesion and integrate the younger players into our processes, and then we will regroup for Olympic qualifying. The leadership and experience of our returning World Cup players will give us a solid starting point on which to build, and we are looking forward to the next challenge.”

Besides Pugh, the only player who did not take part in the fall Victory Tour is goalkeeper Adrianna Franch, who played last season with Avaldsnes IL in Norway but has returned to the NWSL to play for the Portland Thorns in 2016.

Ellis will name 18 players to suit up against Ireland Jan. 23 at San Diego's Qualcomm Stadium and will name the roster for Olympic qualifying following that match.
