AL NASR 2-1 KAZMA, AL ARABI 1-0 AL SHABAB - GCC CLUB CUP
Al Nasr qualified in top spot in Group C of the GCC Club Cup 2015 thanks to a hard-fought 2-1 win over Kuwait’s Kazma at the Al Maktoum Stadium in Dubai, giving The Blues 9 points at the top of the group. Despite dominating the opening encounters, Al Nasr needed until the 42nd minute to get ahead; right-back Ahmed Ibrahim pinging a pinpoint cross into the area for Ibrahima Toure to effortlessly head home and open the scoring at 1-0. But just two minutes later, Kazma had drawn back level with almost the final action of the first half, as some slack marking at a corner kick allowed Nasser Ali a free header past Ahmad Shambieh to make it 1-1 at the interval. In the 77th minute it was another Ahmed Ibrahim cross from the left that proved the catalyst in restoring Al Nasr’s lead, as the ball fell to Pablo Hernandez for the Spaniard to thrash a cross-goal finish into the back of the net and make it 2-1; the way the game ended.
Meanwhile, Al Shabab were able to rest their First Team stars and field a second-choice lineup away at Al Arabi in Qatar, having already qualified in top spot in Group B of the GCC Club Cup with 9 points. But the under-strength Al Shabab side couldn’t maintain their perfect 100% win record in the group stage as they sunk to a 1-0 defeat in Doha. After a goalless first half, Faris Al Mass broke the deadlock for the hosts in the 70th minute to earn Al Arabi their first win in the group.
