Riyadh: Naft Tehran coach Ali Reza Mansourian was delighted with the performance of his team after seeing the score three times in the second half to earn an impressive 3-0 win over Al Shabab in Group B of the AFC Champions League on Tuesday.
Goals from Vahid Amiri, Amir Motahhari and Reza Aliyari in the final 33 minutes secured all three points for Naft Tehran, who move a point clear of Al Ain at the top of the group with just two matches remaining in the group stage.
“I'm extremely happy for the win and the big result that we got tonight as we were the better side and the players performed the plan very well,” said Mansourian. “The big result reflects that we had the upper hand in the match.
“In the first half we controlled proceedings and we managed to keep a clean sheet while we put more pressure in the second half and scored three important goals. Al Shabab were totally different than the team that we played against in Tehran and they were tired tonight.”
Amiri opened the scoring in the 57th minute before an individual effort from Motahhari extended Naft’s advantage, giving the visitors an unassailable advantage.
The result was put beyond any doubt a minute into stoppage time when substitute Aliyari headed home Iman Mobali’s corner, leaving new Al Shabab coach Adel Abdulrahman to pick up the pieces of a demoralising defeat.
"We had a good start to the match but the individual mistakes disappointed us and gave the win for our opponents,” said the Egyptian, who recently took over from Portuguese coach Jaime Pacheco.
“Our opponents took advantage of three mistakes and scored three goals which were enough for them.
“We will try our best to avoid these mistakes in the future and hopefully that the players will learn from the mistakes that they made tonight. We haven’t had good performances recently but the small details were the difference tonight.”
