Ncikazi takes charge of Maritzburg
Following the departure of head coach Steve Komphela to join Kaizer Chiefs, Maritzburg United have since roped in his assistant Mandla Ncikazi.
Ncikazi was appointed to the hot seat, ending speculation as to who could be Komphela’s replacement after former Golden Arrows coach Shaun Bartlett and ex-Chippa United tactician Ernst middendorp were linked to the job.
According to local media reports, the Team of Choice has appointed Ncikazi and he’s set to be assisted by ex-Middendorp right-hand man Fadlu Davids, who recently resigned from a similar position with the Chilli Boys.
Davids played for the Maritzburg outfit for a number of seasons before taking up the coaching role and he returns to help Ncikazi.
Meanwhile, the legal battle involving Komphela and the club seems to be far from over, as both parties have not settled the matter yet.
The club’s hierarchy, led by the chairman Farouk Kadodia, was reported to be considering taking the legal route to hold the former Bafana Bafana skipper Komphela accountable.
“There has been no finality on the issue yet and our legal team will decide the best way of sorting out this situation,” Kadodia was quoted.
“What we are getting from Komphela’s camp is that the reason why this matter has not been sorted out it’s because they are basically dependant on the new team [Kaizer Chiefs] to take care of the matter.
“But this is a matter between Maritzburg and Komphela, not his new team. He knew very well that he was supposed to take care of the compensation before 1 July.”
