West Brom are looking to sign Mathieu Debuchy on an end-of-season loan this month after Arsene Wenger recalled Serge Gnabry from the Hawthorns.
Gnabry failed to impress Tony Pulis and only managed to make three appearances for the Midlands club, but the former Stoke City boss is now targeting a move for Debuchy, with the French right-back desperate for regular first-team football ahead of Euro 2016 this summer.
The 30-year-old France international lost his place in Arsene Wenger’s side after the emergence of Hector Bellerin.
Under Premier League rules, clubs are not allowed to loan two players from the same club, but with Gnabry departing the Hawthorns it means Pulis is able to land Debuchy on loan this month.
The Baggies are believed to be short of options in the right-back position and have played the majority of the campaign with a centre-back in this role.
But on hearing of Debuchy’s current position at Arsenal, Pulis is willing to give the Frenchman the chance to prove his worth and obtain regular first-team action under him.
West Brom will however have competition for his signature, with Roma and Lyon also believed to be keen on the former Lille player.
Mesut Ozil comparison to Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp ‘must wait’, insists Jamie Carragher
The former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has stated that comparison’s being made between Mesut Ozil and Denis Bergkamp must wait until the end of the season.
“As it stands, though, it is nonsense to use statistics to try to compare Ozil and Bergkamp,” Carragher told the Mail.
“The reason is this: Bergkamp is immortalised in bronze outside the Emirates Stadium because, aside from all the medals he won, he helped bring fantasy football to north London. His style had substance.
“If Ozil continues to sparkle when it matters in the next 19 fixtures and inspires Wenger’s squad to their first Premier League title since 2004, it would make him a legend in the eyes of Arsenal fans. Until then the Bergkamp comparisons must wait.”
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger recently compared Ozil to Bergkamp during a post-match press conference.
“Yes, he reminds me of Bergkamp. Bergkamp was more of a goalscorer than him and Ozil is more about assists, but now Ozil is becoming more of a goalscorer, so they are really comparable,” Wenger was quoted as saying by SkySports.
Ozil has provided 16 assists in 17 Premier League games which is more than any other player in England and the top five leagues in Europe including France, Italy, Spain and Germany.
Arsenal moved two points clear of Leicester City at the top of the table following their 1-0 win over Newcastle United last weekend.
The Gunners take on Sunderland in the FA Cup next weekend and travel to Anfield to face Liverpool in their next league games.
Arsenal Expected To Announce €9.5million Signing Within 72 Hours
Arsenal are heading into the final stages of wrapping up a deal that will see Mohammed Elneny switch to the Emirates Stadium this month.
Recent reports in several media outlets have suggested the Egyptian international has already completed a medical, and will be unveiled within the next few days.
It is believed a transfer fee in the region of £7million has been agreed with both parties, and now the 23-year-old just needs international clearance ahead of finalising the move.
That part shouldn’t be a problem to wrap up, and after an injury meltdown over the festive period, fans should be eager to get a look of their new signing in Arsenal colours.
Our cemented duo of both Santi Cazorla and Francis Coquelin are now expected to be out until March, so it’s clear to see Wenger has thought about reinforcements.
And despite the successful performances of our latest partnerships in holding midfield, the boss is worried it may put too much pressure on some of the younger players.
We still have players with a lack of experience in midfield like Calum Chambers, Alex Iwobi, Jeff Reine-Adelaide, and Joseph Willock. They can all play. But at the moment, because there is so much at stake, it is very difficult to get the young players to start, but they have the quality.
The arrival of Elneny will not only provide cover in a defensive aspect, but it may allow Aaron Ramsey to push forward into a more attacking role, offering more options up in midfield.
Therefore, the Egyptian can easily slot in to our midfield whilst working alongside Ramsey or Gunners veteran Mathieu Flamini.
And at 23 you’d be easily mistaken to think that Elneny lacks experience in big games, but having already picked up 36 international cups he’s proved himself at a good level.
At 5ft 11inch, Elneny is hardly going to be a threat in the air, but then again neither was Coquelin. Agile, hard-working and committed to a tackle is exactly what he brings, and exactly what we need.
It is likely that Elneny will make his debut against Sunderland in the FA Cup at the weekend, with several first team regulars set to be rested.
