ES Sétif will play host to Al Merreikh in Sétif on Saturday, in matchday 3 of the CAF Champions League.
Stunned 1-2 by USM Alger on their home ground in their campaign opener, the defending champions were lucky to escape with the three points at MC Eulma with a last-minute winner.
And the ‘Black Eagle’ are now set to give a boost to their continental journey with a convincing victory over the Sudanese heavyweight.
“As far as we are concerned, I believe the team is going to improve game after game and will prove a worthy champion,” Sétif boss Kheireddine Madoui said.
Level on three points with the Algerians, Al Merreikh got their campaign off to a winning start after seeing off MC El Eulma 2-0 in Omdurman, before falling 1-0 to USM Alger in Bologhine.
And the Khartoum giants will have a good opportunity to secure the upper hand over their rivals before hosting them in Omdurman two weeks later.
“We are going to play for the win, as I believe we have what it takes to achieve it, even away from home,” Merreikh coach Diego Garzitto warned.
It is the first continental meeting between the two sides, with the match set at Stade du 8 mai 1945 at 22h30 CAT on Saturday 25 July 2015.
