AmaZulu’s wanted left-back Marc van Heerden is said to be monitored by Orlando Pirates, as local media reveal that the Soweto giants have upped their ante to sign him.

Known as ‘Sdumo’ to the Usuthu faithful, van Heerden was one of the Durban-based outfit’s shining campaigners despite their failure to survive relegation to the National First Division.

Although there are a number of PSL sides looking to bring the player to their ranks, Platinum Stars, Bidvest Wits, SuperSport United and Mpumalanga Black Aces are linked to the player’s signature, however, Eric Tinkler’s side has been the club showing serious interest.

“Amongst all the other teams, Pirates is the team that is showing more interest," a source was quoted by a local website.

"We should be knowing by next week which team he will be joining for next season."

Nevertheless, the report suggests that Usuthu value van Heerden highly, with the club placing a R4-million price tag on the South Africa international.

The 27-year-old Johannesburg-born free-kick specialist still has a year remaining on his contract with Steve Barker’s side, who are reportedly buying Mpumalanga Black Aces' PSL status.

Meanwhile, the defender has been withdrawn from the Bafana Bafana squad to play against Mauritius in the return leg of a CHAN qualifier on Sunday due to an Achilles tendon injury.
