This, is really interesting. We were forwarded this infographic from the good people over atGoEURO.com, a travel packaging group based in Berlin, Germany that worked with the soccer appOnefootball, to compile and calculate the costs of attending a top division game in 25 countries.
The factors for travel were getting to the mathes via bus, train, and air transport to an away game as well as accommodation, food, and beverages during the matches.
In a separate calculation, we ranked the leagues based on quality of the soccer played by their teams, using several world rankings including UEFA, FIFA, and third party databases.
Lastly, they weighed each league’s ranking against the average cost of a first league ticket.
There are some interesting results.
It costs almost the same to travel to Germany to see a Bundesliga match as it does to stay in the UK and attend a Premier League game. It’s interesting how each week more than 2,000 British fans travel to see Borussia Dortmund play, and the attraction that these European games generate on the Americans on a weekly basis.Naren Shaam, CEO of GoEuro
There are some cool things in here when you look at average ticket price to games, and where the values are worldwide.
My only beef with this one would be the “Worldwide League Rankings” and how those shake out. They just used the tools available, but one of those tools they did not use obviously is the ole eye-test.
Check out the graphic. Good to know.
