Cork City defeated Dundalk at Turner's Cross to lift the 2016 FAI President's Cup. An early goal from Gavan Holohan put the hosts ahead before former Lilywhite Sean Maguire headed home to guarantee the silverware.
Dundalk's hopes of salvaging anything from the game sufferrd a blow late on when Brian Gartland was dismissed following a second yellow card, allowing Cork to draw first blood in the infant domestic season.
Holohan opened the scoring when Stephen Dooley's shot was initaly saved by Gary Rodgers, but Ian Turner put the ball back into the danger zone, where Holohan tapped it in at the back post.
