And just five minutes later he made it 301 - an outside-the-boot effort from ten yards his 15th league goal of the season.

Five-time Ballon d'Or winner Messi achieved the figure in just 334 games.

His tally for the season in all competitions for the Catalan giants - who are on a record 30-match unbeaten run - now stands at 27.

Incredibly, he is also the player to score Barcelona's 9,000th and 10,000th goals.

Messi was just 17 when he scored his first goal for the club on May 1 2005.

Barcelona can extend their lead at the top of the table to six points with a win away from home.
